The direct answer

A PNG is not a BIMI SVG, and an ordinary web SVG is not automatically compliant. BIMI uses the SVG Tiny PS profile, which restricts the features the file can contain.

What does proper conversion involve?

Start with the approved vector artwork where possible. Renaming a PNG to end in .svg, or placing a bitmap inside an SVG wrapper, is not a reliable conversion process.

The BIMI Group specifies Tiny PS attributes and excludes features such as scripts, animation and external references. Validate the exported file itself; a logo looking correct in a browser does not establish compliance.

What should I ask the designer for?

Request a square, recognisable version that works at small sizes, together with the original editable artwork. Review it in both circular and square crops, leaving space around important details.

Use the logo requirements guide for the technical checklist, then keep the validated file as a controlled asset. If someone edits it after validation, repeat the check before publishing or submitting it for certification.
